International Hapkido Federation® Eagleville, Pennsylvania Affiliate
Eagleville Taekwondo Academy Hapkido ProgramEagleville Taekwondo Academy offers instruction in the International Hapkido Federation (IHF) style of Hapkido, under the auspices of Grandmaster Bong Soo Han. Hapkido is a multifaceted Korean martial art. The IHF is the organization that promotes and administrates this system.
About HapkidoHapkido is a Korean martial art, which is translated as “the way of coordinated power”. It is a modern synthesis of elements of several self defense systems from the northeastern region of Asia. It encompasses kicking, hand strikes, joint locking, throws, pressure point manipulation, ground fighting, weapons, and mental training. This gives Hapkido a wide variety of composite skills. Hapkido requires use of its skills for defensive purposes only. It teaches principles that cause aggressive force to be deflected away in a circular manner by skillful application of timing. Consequently, it requires less strength by the defender and leaves the aggressor vulnerable to rapidly flowing counter techniques. Hapkido is a system that utilizes circular motion and nonresistance to move in accord with an attacker, and flow into continual counter techniques to neutralize his threat. It consists of many areas of study to achieve this. Refer to the links below to learn more about these skill sets. Falling, Hand Strikes, Kicking, Joint Locks, Throws, and Meditation are those areas expanded upon in the Hapkido Skills page. Anyone can benefit from the study of Hapkido. However, certain aspects of training require a developed level of patience and physical maturity to make it safe and productive. Therefore training is not currently offered to those under the age of 12 years.
Grandmaster Bong Soo HanGrandmaster Han was best known popularly for his acting, fight choreography, and stunt work in the films of the “Billy Jack” series, “The Presidio”, and others. This reputation often overshadows his 60 plus years of practice of the martial arts, as well as his teaching of Hapkido to the public in the United States since 1967 and to the U.S. military starting in 1961. Eagleville Taekwondo Academy is also the only facility affiliated with the IHF in the northeastern United States.
